It is only fair to say that accepting equal numbers of male and female students in every subject has become one of the most disputed and argued ideas all over the globe with its agreement people and disagreements people that affect our lives in different aspects. I strongly believe in this argument and I will highlight some reasons for my agreement.
One of the most cited reasons for this topic is that some specializations are designed for a specific gender. In explanation, engineering and mechanics are suitable for males because they require physical strength, while delivery specialties are considered more suitable for females due to societal norms. For instance, the Technical University in Oman requires students to handle heavy equipment and wear special attire for their majors. Girls might find these physical demands and dress codes challenging, which makes engineering and mechanical majors more common among boys. Hence, this creates an imbalance in the number of male and female students.
In addition, universities often have a registration system based on first-come, first-served, without regard to gender. For example, at Sultan Qaboos University, the capacity of classes is around 30 seats. Sometimes, men may be less prompt in registering compared to women, who may complete their registration faster. This discrepancy in registration speed can also contribute to the unequal distribution of students.
In conclusion, the main reasons for my rejection of the argument that universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject are the gender-specific suitability of certain majors and the practical issues related to the registration system. Therefore, I completely disagree with enforcing equal acceptance rates for both genders in all subjects.
